Group Study Timer
YPT alternative for PC

A Free YPT Alternative for PC, minus the emulator

YPT (Yeolpumta) is built for phones, and there's no native Windows app. Group Study Timer gives you the same study-together feeling on your laptop: study groups, live rankings and a Pomodoro timer, all in your browser.

The short answer

There's no YPT app for Windows. YPT is made for Android and iPhone, so on a Windows PC you'd need an Android emulator such as BlueStacks. Macs with an Apple M1 chip or later can install the iPhone version from the App Store. If you want to study with friends on a laptop without an emulator, Group Study Timer runs in any browser and has study groups, live rankings and a Pomodoro timer.

YPT vs Group Study Timer

Both are built around the same idea: you study harder when you can see other people studying. The biggest difference is where they run.

How to use YPT on a PC

There are three realistic ways to get YPT onto a bigger screen, and each one comes with a catch.

Option 1

Run it in an Android emulator

Install an emulator such as BlueStacks, MEmu or GameLoop, sign in to Google Play inside it, and install YPT. It works, but emulators are heavy. They take several gigabytes of space, can slow down older laptops, and YPT's app blocking only covers the emulator, not the rest of your PC.

Option 2

Install it on an Apple Silicon Mac

YPT's App Store listing says it runs on Macs with an Apple M1 chip or later. If you have one, search for YPT in the Mac App Store and install the iPhone and iPad version. Older Intel Macs can't do this.

Option 3

Use a timer that runs in the browser

Keep YPT on your phone if your group lives there, and use a browser timer on your computer. Or move your study group to one tool that works on every device, like Group Study Timer, so nobody has to install anything.

FAQ

Questions about YPT on PC

Is there a YPT app for PC?

Not for Windows. YPT is made for Android and iPhone, so on a Windows PC it only runs inside an Android emulator such as BlueStacks. Macs with an Apple M1 chip or later can install the iPhone and iPad version from the App Store.

Can I use YPT on a laptop?

On a Windows laptop, only through an Android emulator. On a newer Mac, through the App Store. If you'd rather not run an emulator, a browser-based study timer like Group Study Timer works on any laptop without installing anything.

What is the best YPT alternative for PC?

For studying together on a computer, Group Study Timer is a close match. It runs in any browser and has study groups, live leaderboards, group chat, a Pomodoro timer and syllabus trackers. If you only study on your phone and want other apps blocked, YPT itself is still a good choice.

Where is YPT from?

YPT, short for Yeolpumta, is made by Pallo, a company based in Seoul, South Korea. Its store listings say more than 5 million people study with it.

Is Group Study Timer free?

Yes. The timer, study groups, leaderboards, group chat and syllabus trackers are free to use. An optional Premium plan adds extras such as AI analysis, animated backgrounds and custom group codes.

Can Group Study Timer block other apps like YPT does?
